I really appreciate this movie and even the dogs on the movie. I am so really surprise with the movie, because dog’s thinks like a human in the movie. They make a way on how can they live in the middle of the storm. Protect each other and help each other and in this kind of movie you can really see that dog’s are man’s best friend, because the main character in the story really make a way to go behind their dog’s even though they are to far from them. I can see also that those dog’s did not left each other, especially when one of their companion get wounded but still they did not leave it and instead the one dog find a way on how to told their friend man that there are still dog left in which it is wounded. This is so really interesting story and movie that people can really get so much lesson to it.

Two men were killed in a shooting spree in Batasan Hills, Quezon City, Friday night.

The Quezon City Police District named the fatalities as Rommel Malate and RJ Barboza.

Investigations showed that Barboza was standing in front of Malate's mini-store in Sitio San Gabriel, Barangay Batasan Hills around 8 p.m. when two gunmen on board a blue Toyota Revo fired at them.

The gunmen sped off after the shooting and evaded policemen who responded to the crime scene.

The police have yet to determine the motive for the killing.

Surigao del Norte grenade attack

Nine people have been wounded in a grenade attack in Surigao del Norte province, the military said Saturday.

An unidentified person lobbed the grenade into a public area in the town of Claver late Friday, said regional Army spokesman Major Armand Rico.

The explosion caused panic and wounded nine people, he said, adding that the the suspect has not been caught and the motive for the attack is unknown.

The explosion came amid tightened security in the southern Philippines, where the military has been locked in intense gunbattles with Muslim separatist rebels since August.

Philippine banks remain stable and largely immune from shock waves caused by the US credit crisis, economic managers said Thursday.

While the US and European governments moved to bail out troubled financial institutions, the Philippines remained basically unscathed, said central bank deputy governor Nestor Espenilla.

"In the US and Europe they are talking bailout primarily because the issues there have deteriorated into solvency questions," Espenilla told reporters.

"In the Philippines this is not the case because our banks have no solvency issues at this time," he said.

However, a number of Philippine banks do have some exposure to collapsed US investment bank Lehman Brothers.

Espenilla said the central bank remains committed to provide "liquidity loans" to the financial sector if needed.

North Korea backing away from nuclear deal

North Korea said on Friday it was working on restarting its nuclear plant and dismissed the prospect of being removed from a US terrorism blacklist in return for a disarmament deal.

The North said it had begun work to rebuild the Soviet-era Yongbyon nuclear plant, which made bomb-grade plutonium. The plant previously was being taken apart under a much-delayed disarmament-for-aid deal it reached with five countries, including the United States.

"The DPRK (North Korea) neither wishes to be delisted as a 'state sponsor of terrorism' nor expects such a thing to happen," the North's official KCNA news agency quoted a Foreign Ministry spokesman as saying.

Work has been under way to restore Yongbyon's nuclear facilities "to their original state," the spokesman said.

In Washington, the United States reacted calmly to the announcement, saying North Korea had not yet made the plant operational.

"They have not got to that point yet. We would urge them not to get to that point," State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said when asked about North Korea's statement.

He urged Pyongyang to agree to a mechanism to verify the claims it has made about the extent of its nuclear program.

NAIA-3 intl flights

Terminal 3 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport will start catering to international flights sooner than expected. This development came after Cebu Pacific (CEB) announced that it will move its entire domestic and international operations to the newly-opened terminal on August 1.

"Now that we will be flying both domestic and international services under one roof, we will be able to see some operational efficiencies and offer our passengers an even better product," CEB president and CEO Lance Gokongwei said in a statement released Friday.

"NAIA-3's opening is a welcome development for us especially since we have outgrown both the domestic passenger terminal and NAIA-1. As the country's fastest growing airline, we are very pleased to be offering our passengers a much improved airport facility," he added.

At present, CEB flies to 24 domestic and 16 international destinations, operating a total of 1078 flights per week.

At the new terminal, the airline has been allotted 28 check-in counters and nine boarding gates, up from sharing 22 counters and four gates with other airlines at the old Manila Domestic Airport terminal.

Students hold anti-oil price hike

Student activists continued their protest against skyrocketing prices of petroleum products Friday. This time, they threw lubricants at the office of oil giant Petron Corp. in Makati City.

Members of Anakbayan, a youth activist group, condemned the oil firm as they tried to breach the perimeter of Petron. Security guards, however, were able to prevent them from getting near the building.

Andrew Zarate, Anakbayan-Natinal Capital Region spokesman, said the group will continue to hold protests until oil companies are forced to bring down the prices of their products.

During the protest, students cited the hardships that their parents have to endure so that they can cope up with the rising prices of basic goods caused by high oil prices.

Massive wildfires threaten two California towns

California firefighters made a desperate stand as darkness fell on Thursday to save more than 4,000 homes and other structures from a pair of out-of-control wildfires burning about 170 miles apart along the California coast.

The most imminent danger was to homes around Goleta, near Santa Barbara, where flames were fast approaching 2,600 homes and transmission lines supplying power to 100,000 people on the central coast.

All told, some 3,000 residences had been evacuated in and around Goleta, a town of about 30,000 people, and officials said the threat to life and property had made it the state's top firefighting priority, despite more than 1,000 other blazes burning across the state.

"The entire sky here in Goleta is black with smoke and we're evacuating several more locations," Cal Fire spokeswoman Karen McKinley said on Thursday evening of the Gap Fire, which broke out on Wednesday afternoon and had charred more than 2,400 acres.

Asked how close the flames were to the nearest homes, she said: "It may be at them right now. This is a critical moment."

Year-old boy, 3 others die in Cebu landslide

The body of a one-year old boy has been recovered from one of four homes buried by a landslide in Samboan town in Cebu province on Sunday night.

The recovery of Edwin Galla Jr.'s body increased the death toll from the landslide to four. Two other children identified as Nathaniel and Errol, both surnamed Cañete, and a certain Florence Galla, were also killed by the soil collapse brought by heavy rains.

Three more fishermen from Negros Occidental

Three more fishermen were rescued in Aroroy town in Masbate Tuesday bringing to nine the number of fishermen rescued after more than 100 fishermen were reported missing in Romblon and Masbate at the height of Typhoon "Frank's" onslaught.

The latest three rescued were identified as Esmeraldo Mata, 40 and Pedro Delacruz, 53 of Cadiz City and Andres Cabus, 42 of Escalante City.

The three were part of the crew of fishing boat F.B. Laura Roland which was reportedly owned by a councilor in Cadiz City.

The three fishermen said their boat went to the side of Olontoya island in Capiz province to attempt to seek shelter from typhoon "Frank". They were surprised however that their location made them more exposed to strong winds and huge waves.

They said the strong waves caused their vessel to capsize then sink Friday morning.

"Hindi na makaya ng aming sasakyan at bumaligtad," said Mata.

"Naka-anchor kami tapos sobra ng lakas ng hangin, nasira ang engine room at doon nakapasok ang tubig," said Cabus.

The three survivors said they floated for three days and two nights with the other 11 crew members holding on to floating lumber. One by one however their fellow crew members disappeared from their sight, they said.

A new ordinance signed by Mayor Caesario Cabbigat requires couples planning to get married to plant five trees before the local chief executive officiates their wedding.

Engaged couples may plant trees on their garden or on a vacant government-owned land.

A certification from the chairman of the barangay where the couple resides would attest that they have accomplished the requirements of the town's ordinance.

Cabbigat said that requiring couples to plant trees before they are allowed to marry would help add trees to their municipality.

"We see a little bit of profit-taking so far in Asia today," said Dave Ernsberger, Asia director of global energy information provider Platts.

They first gained serious attention last year after Asus began selling its Eee computer. Thanks to its success, a slew of other manufacturers, like Everex, Fujitsu and Hewlett-Packard, have jumped in and are selling minis ranging from $299 to more than $1,000.

Industry analysts expect mini-notebooks to remain a niche category, especially in the United States and Western Europe, where many people can afford to spend a few hundred dollars more for a bigger and speedier portable machine while using a smartphone or other device as an adequate substitute.

“This is for people who would have bought a desktop, but buy this to save money,” said Leslie Fiering, a vice president at the research firm Gartner.

Indeed, their availability in the United States has left some analysts scratching their heads. “Why would you want a PC with stripped-down features that make it harder to do your work?” said Benjamin A. Reitzes, a computer industry analyst at Lehman Brothers.

GENERAL SANTOS CITY - Price of rice in the city has dramatically gone done this week.

A P3.50 per kilogram decrease in the price of the most expensive variety of rice and a P5 per kg cut on the cheapest commercial rice were recorded in General Santos City Central Public Market during the past four days.

Aurora Bonjoc, one of the rice retailers in the public market, said that the arrival of a new variety of commercial rice from Luzon over the weekend pulled down the prices of local rice variety here.

"Nakabili kasi kami ng murang variety ng bigas mula sa Luzon. Doon na kami nag-aangkat ng bigas kasi mas mura ang bigas na galing ng Luzon," said Bonjoc.

The cheapest rice available in the city was now beng sold at P38 a kilo from P43 per kg last week. Rice of higher grade, meanwhile, was being sold at P44.50 from P48 per kilo a week ago.

Thousands of tons of Sinandomeng rice from the provinces of Isabela, Nueva Ecija and Aurora provinces have arrived in Mindanao. Rice retailers opted to buy the rice form the Luzon provinces because it is much cheaper that rice from Mindanao. The rice from Luzon was only being sold at P1,950 per sack compared to the more than P2,000 per sack of rice from rice dealers in Mindanao.

6 die, 16 hurt as truck falls into Cotabato ravine

Six people died while 16 others were hurt after a truck plunged into a deep ravine along a highway in President Roxas town in North Cotabato, a radio dzMM report said Tuesday.

Three of the fatalities were identified as Erlinda Gregorio, Glen Gregorio and Tata Maselonia. Three other victims died in hospital, the report said.

The victims were passengers of an Isuzu Elf truck that initially hit a tricycle along the highway in Barangay Mabuhay.

Police said the truck lost its brakes before hitting the tricycle.

6.3-magnitude earthquake

A 6.3 magnitude earthquake rocked the Batanes group of islands on Sunday but was barely felt in the rest of the country. There were no immediate reports of any casualties or damage and no tsunami warning was issued.

Former congressman Butch Abad told ABS-CBN News that he was in area when the quake struck. He described it as "particularly strong" but had no information on any damage or casualties.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake had a magnitude of 6.3 with an epicentre about 76 kilometers west of the Batanes town of Basco.

The quake was felt strongly in Basco but was barely noticeable in the northern provinces of the Philippines' main island of Luzon, the institute said, adding that aftershocks were expected.

Business groups have quietly alerted Malacañang Palace to an open-ended congressional inquiry that they consider a risk to their operations because it is forcing the Department of Finance (DOF) to release its sensitive database on the operations of companies applying for tax credits.

While Congress has the power to require an Executive office to submit records and pertinent documents when Congress performs policymaking and oversight functions, the demand by Rep. Arnulfo Fuentebella for the DOF’s One-Stop Shop (OSS) Tax Credit and Duty Drawback Center to release to his office its entire database could jeopardize the welfare of private businesses, according to highly reliable sources.

Efforts to reach the center’s executive director Ernesto Hiansen at the weekend were in vain, but the sources said Hiansen was reluctant to release the database to the committee because Fuentebella had made very sweeping claims of “continuing anomalies” in the tax-credit system without giving specifics.

Argument over Dog

Due to a misunderstanding brought about by a dog, a family driver was wounded after he was shot by his neighbor who is a policeman in Granada Heights Subdivision, Barangay Granada in Bacolod City 9 pm Thursday night.

The victim identified as Norberto Alvior, 49, survived from six gunshot wounds in his gut and thighs. He is still recuperating at the Doctor's Hospital.

The suspect, identified as Police Officer Nicholas Tancinco of Police Station 1, surrendered to authorities shortly after the shooting incident.

Inspector Renato Ofamen, Police Station 5 chief, in an interview over ABS-CBN Bacolod, said that the suspect's son was reportedly wounded after he (son) was attacked by the victim's dog prior to the shooting incident.

Angered by the incident, the cop-suspect went to the dog owner's house and confronted the Alvior family.

Alliance Global Group, Inc. (AGGI), the holding company of tycoon Andrew Tan, on Tuesday said its first quarter profit rose 84 percent to P910.4 million compared to the same period last year, pulled by the robust performance of its property unit Megaworld.

Consolidated revenues for January to March reached P7.3 billion, or an increase of 26 percent year on year.

"The company registered strong earnings in the first quarter inspite of the challenges that face our economy," AGGI president and COO Kingson Sian said.

Property developer Megaworld posted a record first quarter profit of P1.012 billion driven by the strong real estate sales of its mid-income residential and business process outsourcing office space developments.

Rental income also grew 59 percent to P333.53 million as it sustained the growth of its rental income with a combination of high occupancy rates in both its BPO office spaces and retail developments coupled with an aggressive buildup of its portfolio of investment properties.

ILOILO - Two people were washed away by floodwaters and thousands are still in evacuation centers in the central Philippines after days of heavy rains pounded the area, officials said Friday.

A new tropical storm was also forming off the northern Philippines, the government weather station said Friday.

The storm was not expected to hit the country until Sunday according to weather officials.

Two women were washed away as they tried to cross a flooded bridge in the central island of Negros earlier in the week, disaster control officials said Friday. One body had been recovered while the other woman was still missing.

More than 1,130 families were still housed in evacuation centers in Iloilo City, near Negros where they fled to avoid rising waters earlier this week, city hall officials said.

Tamaraw

Apart from the Philippine eagle, perhaps there is only one other animal that can best symbolize the mass extinction of species that is happening here in the Philippines—the Tamaraw. Once found in the thousands in the island of Mindoro in the early 1900s, it is estimated that fewer than 300 survive today.

The reasons for the dramatic decline in the Tamaraw’s population are many. The three most notable factors which led to it are:

1. the introduction of cattle into Mindoro in the early 1900s 2. rampant hunting of the species and 3. the widespread logging that destroyed much of Mindoro’s forests where the Tamaraws live.

In the 1930s, there was an outbreak of the deadly rinderpest disease among the cattle herds in Mindoro. The rinderpest plague eventually spread to the Tamaraws and caused thousands of deaths among them. When the plague subsided, less than a thousand Tamaraws were left.

In the 1960s and 70s, hunters with automatic weapons flew to Mindoro from Manila to hunt Tamaraws for sport.

For this year, UBS sees inflation to average 7.2 percent from an earlier forecast of 6.7 percent after a surprise surge in inflation to a three-year high of 8.3 percent last month.

"(ASEAN) will help each other in stabilizing the global (food) price and not take steps that will disrupt the price of rice," Indonesian Trade Minister Marie Elka Pangestu said on Elshinta radio.

"Ensuring the stability of rice (price) is the priority," she said.

Pangestu said the ministers had agreed to continue exports provided domestic needs were being met.

"We will not export if our domestic needs are not enough. Like Thailand, they have announced that they have a surplus in rice production and they will not stop exports," she added.

Metropolitan Bank and Trust Co. (Metrobank), the country's top lender in assets, said Tuesday its board has approved the issuance of up to P10 billion worth of subordinated debt to form part of Tier 2 capital.

"This new issuance will enhance Metrobank's capital adequacy ratio (CAR) in line with the implementation of the Basel II standards imposed by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas last July 2007," it said.

Metrobank said the notes would be offered in one or more tranches, subject to the central bank's approval.
