Metropolitan Bank and Trust Co. (Metrobank), the country's top lender in assets, said Tuesday its board has approved the issuance of up to P10 billion worth of subordinated debt to form part of Tier 2 capital.

"This new issuance will enhance Metrobank's capital adequacy ratio (CAR) in line with the implementation of the Basel II standards imposed by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas last July 2007," it said.

Metrobank said the notes would be offered in one or more tranches, subject to the central bank's approval.

The bank also said that the issue would replace $200 million worth of its obligations maturing in December 2013 and callable in December this year.

Fuel Costs

Monday, April 28, 2008, Posted by John, No Comment

SYDNEY - Australia's national airline Qantas said Monday it will increase air fares from May 9 to counter the impact of rising fuel costs and protect its profitability.

International fares will rise by about 3.0 percent and domestic fares will increase by about 3.5 percent, the airline said, adding that its budget offshoot Jetstar was reviewing its own fare levels.

But chief executive Geoff Dixon said that while higher fuel prices remained a concern, the group's fundamentals remain strong with its flying businesses well positioned in their markets.

"We remain confident of meeting our guidance for a 2007/08 result of a least 40 percent higher than the 2006/07 reported profit before tax," Dixon said.

Ocean Deep

Love, cant you see I’m alone
Can’t you give this fool a chance
A little love is all I ask
A little kindness in the night
Please don’t leave me behind
No don’t tell me love is blind
A little love is all I ask
And that is all
Ooh love, I’ve been searching so long
I’ve been searching high and low
A little love is all I ask
A little sadness when you go
Maybe you’ll need a friend
Only please don’t let’s pretend
A little love is all I ask
And that is all

-I-
I wanna spread my wings
But I just can’t fly
Has a string of pearls
The pretty girls go sailing by

-II-
Ocean deep
I’m so afraid to show my feelings
I have sailed a million ceilings
Solitary room

Ocean deep
Will I ever find a lover
Maybe he has found another
And as I cry myself to sleep
I know this love of mine I’ll keep
Ocean deep

Now, cant you here when I call
Can’t you hear the word I say
A little love is all I ask
A little feeling when we touch

Why am I still alone
I’ve got a heart without a home
A little love is all I ask
And that is all

Repeat -I-
Repeat -II-

I’m so lonely, lonely, lonely (ocean deep)
On my own in my room
I’m so lonely
(Ocean deep)
I’m so lonely, I’m so lonely….

Our Sun is a normal main-sequence G2 star, one of more than 100 billion stars in our galaxy.

        diameter: 1,390,000 km.
        mass: 1.989e30 kg
        temperature: 5800 K (surface)
                     15,600,000 K (core)

The Sun is by far the largest object in the solar system. It contains more than 99.8% of the total mass of the Solar System (Jupiter contains most of the rest).

It is often said that the Sun is an "ordinary" star. That's true in the sense that there are many others similar to it. But there are many more smaller stars than larger ones; the Sun is in the top 10% by mass. The median size of stars in our galaxy is probably less than half the mass of the Sun.

The Sun is personified in many mythologies: the Greeks called it Helios and the Romans called it Sol.

The Sun is, at present, about 70% hydrogen and 28% helium by mass everything else ("metals") amounts to less than 2%. This changes slowly over time as the Sun converts hydrogen to helium in its core.

The outer layers of the Sun exhibit differential rotation: at the equator the surface rotates once every 25.4 days; near the poles it's as much as 36 days. This odd behavior is due to the fact that the Sun is not a solid body like the Earth. Similar effects are seen in the gas planets. The differential rotation extends considerably down into the interior of the Sun but the core of the Sun rotates as a solid body.

Oil Prices

NEW YORK - Oil hit fresh record highs Monday amid reports of pipeline sabotage in Nigeria and as the US dollar remained weakened, traders said.

Market participants said OPEC's stance not to increase its output against rising prices was also stoking values higher.

New York's main oil futures contract, light sweet crude for delivery in May, struck a new peak in intraday trading of 117.76 dollars before closing at 117.48 dollars, which marked a record closing high.

The contract has jumped 79 cents compared with Friday's closing level.
